Helen Meyer Stusse died October 12, 2003 at the age of 85.
She was born March 6, 1918 in Granada, MN, daughter of Helena Van Heuman and Henry Meyer. After high school graduation she attended nursing school and later earned a teaching certificate. She was a teacher in a country school in southern MN.
In 1943 she married Harold Stusse. They began their married life traveling from MN to the East Coast while he worked as a ballast cleaner (railroad). Later, as a plaster and stucco contractor, they lived and worked in southern, northern and central MN. Helen lived in and loved Buffalo, MN for 38 years. In 1999 she relocated to Austin, TX and enjoyed her life in independent living and assisted living. Most recently she was a resident in a nursing home.
She lived her life with a passion for her family and for books. She loved a challenge and had a smile and determination that never quit. At the age of 80 she avidly tended her home, garden, shoveled snow, mowed the grass. She hosted large, happy family reunions, where gluttons reigned.
To cherish her memory she leaves daughters Carmen Stusse & Adrian Van Erp of Leander, TX, and Jennifer Stusse & Robert Schmitt of Studio City, CA; granddaughters Nikki Stusse Van Erp& Steven Chang of Houston, TX, and Adrienne Stusse Van Erp& Gary Pratt of Salt Lake City, UT; Granny babies Stefanie and Rebecca Chang, Carson, Malarie and Mylee Pratt. She is also survived by sister in law Joyce Ritter Stusse of Fairmont, MN; cousin Minnie Van Heuman Johnson of Fairmont, MN; brother in law Everett Lidke of Minneapolis, MN; cherished nieces and nephews, their spouses, their children; and her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sisters Anna & Raymond Pierce, Minnie & Charles Lambert, Mart & Roy Lidke, Marie Lidke; brothers Bill & Minnie, John, Walt, Frank & Bernice, Oscar; brother in law Lester Stusse; and sister in law Lorraine Senne Stusse.
