Funeral services for Lloyd F. Darmer, 86, Fairmont, Minnesota, will be held on Monday, August 2nd, 2004 at 1:30 pm at Zion Lutheran Church-Fraser Township, rural Fairmont. Interment with full military honors conducted by Schwieger-Kahler American Legion Post 522 of Northrop will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Darmer died Wednesday, July 28th, 2004 at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Truman, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 3-5 pm at Olson-Zaharia Funeral Home in Fairmont and one hour before the services in the church Monday.
Lloyd Fred Darmer was born to Fred and Emma Virgens Darmer on June 8th, 1918 on the family farm in Fraser Township, Martin County, Minnesota where he lived his entire life. He attended parochial school at Zion Evangelical Lutheran School. Lloyd entered the U.S. Army on February 10th, 1942. He served in London, Paris and Frankfurt, and later was with the 156th Infantry where he was a guard for General Eisenhower. Lloyd served three years overseas returning in 1945. He farmed from that time until 1983 when he retired. Lloyd was a member of Zion Lutheran Church-Fraser and a member of the Schwieger-Kahler American Legion Post 522 in Northrop.
Lloyd is survived by one sister, Helen Stradtman, St. James, Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Arlene Darmer, Welcome, Minnesota and two nieces, Shirley Hogan, New Brighton, Minnesota and Bonnie Brown, St. James, Minnesota and two nephews, Keith Darmer, Welcome, Minnesota and Kevin Darmer, Sibley, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alfred and Victor; one sister, Regina; and a brother-in-law, Vernon Stradtman.
