Funeral services for Harold E. Strivens, 89 of Fairmont, Minnesota will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2004 at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center Chapel in Fairmont. Services will also be held at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Coleridge at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2004 with burial following at Coleridge City Cemetery in Coleridge, Nebraska with full military honors.
Mr. Strivens died Thursday, September 16, 2004 at Fairmont Medical Center ? Mayo Health Systems in Fairmont. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2004 at Olson-Zaharia Funeral Home in Fairmont and Friday one hour prior to the service at the nursing home and also Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church in Coleridge.
Harold Eugene Strivens was born September 3, 1915, the son of Frank and Ada Strivens in Coleridge, Nebraska. He attended school in Coleridge. On January 27, 1941 Harold enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served in World War II. He was honorably discharged on October 24, 1945. He moved back to Coleridge where he met Pearl Karen Larsen. On June 26, 1949, Harold and Pearl were married in South Dakota. They moved to Fairmont, Minnesota in 1959 where they owned and operated the EZ Wash Laundromat for 20 years. Following retirement they spent many winters in Florida and on November 20, 1992 moved to Maplewood Apartments in Fairmont. Pearl died February 22, 1999. Harold was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairmont.
Survivors include a son, Byron Strivens and his wife, Kathy of Oregon City, Oregon; two grandchildren, Jaimie Rose and husband Josh of Canby, Oregon and Jeremy Strivens of Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Hailey. He was preceded in death by his wife, two infant sons and six brothers and sisters.
