Funeral services for James Abram, 81, Fairmont, MN, will be held on Saturday, June 11th, 2005, at 1:30 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fairmont, with Rev. Roger Abernathy officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont with military honors by the Fairmont VFW Post 1222 and Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36. Mr. Abram died Wednesday, June 8th, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 pm Friday, June 10th, 2005, at Zaharia Family Funeral and Cremation Service of Fairmont and one hour before the services at the church.
James Donald Abram was born December 17th, 1923 in Lohrville, IA to Adolph and Clara (Waters) Abram. James attended school in Lakefield, MN. He enlisted in the US Army in 1940. He served in WWII. James was honorably discharged at Ft. Snelling on July 3rd, 1945. On May 11th, 1946, James married Evelyn Peterson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church parsonage in Fairmont. In 1948, James and Evelyn moved to Fairmont from Armstrong, IA. He worked as a salesman in plumbing and heating until opening his own business called A.M.S. Supply Co. in 1964 in Mankato. He served as President and Chairman of the Board until his retirement in 1993. James was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fairmont, and a member of the Fairmont VFW Post 1222.
James is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Abram, Fairmont; two daughters, Barbara Abram of Mesa, AZ and Jane Abram of Los Angeles; one son, and daughter-in-law, Robert Abram and his wife Patti of West Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Soukup of St. Peter, MN and one half sister, Violet Defries and her husband Ray of Windom, MN. He was preceded in death by parents; one son, Donald; one half brother and two half sisters.
