Funeral services for Robert W. Snyder, 92, of Truman, MN will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2005, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman with the Rev. Nathan Rusert officiating. Burial with full military honors by Oles-Reader-Bosshart American Legion Post 115 will be at Ridgelawn Memorial Park in Truman. Mr. Snyder died Monday afternoon, August 1, 2005 at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman. Visitation will be Thursday, August 4, 2005, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Zaharia Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Truman and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Robert Wayne Snyder was born February 11, 1913, in Stratford, IA to Ezra B. and Emma L. (Barquist) Snyder. At the age of 8, he moved to Minnesota with his family and lived near Trimont and Fairmont. Robert attended school in Galena Township and Trimont High School for one year. He moved to Fairmont in 1929 and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1932. Following his education he farmed with his father and worked for Fisher Light Plant in Trimont. In 1940, he began working for Central Telephone Company where he first worked on the construction crew. In May of 1942, Robert entered the United States Army where he served in Europe and Pacific operations until he was honorably discharged in December of 1945, attaining the rank of Tec. 4. He returned home to work for Central Telephone Company. On February 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ardis Jeanette Westlund at First Lutheran Church in St. James, MN. Following their marriage they moved to Farmington, MN and in September of 1946, they moved to Truman, where he became manager of the Truman and Lewisville telephone exchanges. He retired in 1978 after 38 years of employment with the phone company. He and Ardis continued to reside in Truman, eventually residing at the Lutheran Manor and the Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman. Ardis died June 12, 2005. Robert was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman, Oles-Reader-Bosshart American Legion Post 115, where he served as a past commander.
Survivors include a son, DuWayne Snyder and his wife, Grace of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Gail Sacranie and her husband, Shan of Naperville, IL; four grandchildren, Jonathan and David Snyder of Tucson, AZ and Jamal and Narissa Sacranie of Naperville, IL; one sister, Dorothy Kramer of Fairmont, MN; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ardis; brothers, Lawrence, Earl and Donald Sndyer; and one sister, Helen Peterson.
