Funeral services for Rudy L. Tonne, 73, Fairmont, MN, will be held on Saturday, September 17th, 2005 at 10:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church, Fairmont, with Rev. Neil Christopherson officiating. Interment with full military honors by the Schwieger-Kahler American Legion Post 522, Martin County VFW Post 1222 and the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36, will be at Fairview Memorial Park, Fairmont. Visitation will be Friday evening from 4-7:00pm at Zaharia Family Funeral and Cremation Service of Fairmont. Rudy died Wednesday evening at his home surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer.
Rudy Loren Tonne was born on March 17th, 1932 in Fairmont, MN, to Fred and Lucy Engle Tonne. He attended school at Dist. 108 in Fairmont. In 1952, Rudy joined the US Army. He served until his honorable discharge in 1954. From 1954 until 1996 Rudy worked for Fairmont Wholesale. Rudy was married to Alice Jellema. They later divorced. He was married on July 14th, 1978 to Mavis Rolling in Sioux Falls, SD. Rudy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Fairmont; Schwieger-Kahler American Legion Post 522; a life member of the Martin County VFW Post 1222; and the Martin County Conservation Club. Rudy enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, camping and especially spending time with his family.
Rudy is survived by his wife, Mavis of Fairmont; one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Cindy Tonne and one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Kenny Allen, all of Fairmont; four step sons and step daughter-in-law, Dan and Sheryl Rolling of Truman, Randy Rolling of Sheffield, IA, Steve Rolling of Port Orchard, WA, Keith Rolling of Fairmont; five step daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and David Alm of Fairmont, Kathy and Tom Totzke of Fairmont, Sandra and Dennis Doolittle of Brainerd, MN, Mary Sue and Kenny Ringeisen of Fairmont, Renae and Gordon Chase of River Falls, WI; five grandchildren; fourteen step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; one brother, Floyd Tonne of Fairmont; two sisters, his twin sister, Ruth Groover, Sterling, CO and Fern Holz of Dodge Center, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; two sisters; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
