Born October 11, 1925 in Ames, Iowa, he was the son of Willard "Mickey? Myers and Stella (Morrison) Myers. He graduated from Ames High School in 1944, delayed a year by a hunting accident that cost him his right thumb. He married Nadine Paul, also of Ames, on February 4, 1945, and worked at a munitions plant in Hastings, Nebraska to support the war effort, in which he was ineligible to participate due to his injured hand. He attended classes at Iowa State University in Ames and later held various positions including owning and operating a DX Service station in Toledo, Iowa, which eventually included a taxi service that was later moved to the nearby town of Tama and then became a limousine service and eventually a bus line, named the "Bull Shipper's Special,? serving central Iowa cattle people traveling to stockyards in Chicago. He later worked for Combined Insurance while living in State Center, Iowa and then Ceylon and, for a brief time, Hibbing, then for Pyramid Life Insurance when back in Ceylon. Not long after, he established Myers Refinishing in Ceylon and ran the business for many years with son Dan. He was a kind-hearted person who liked to joke and tease, and he enjoyed fishing, which he often did with his family when younger, and reading, crossword puzzles, and television. He was also an avid self-taught musician who collected musical instruments and played several, including the guitar, banjo, mandolin and violin. His interest in music inspired his children to become involved in music, too. Before moving to the Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman, he enjoyed socializing at Peterson's Café in Ceylon. He will be very much missed by everyone.
He is survived by his wife Nadine and by his five children: David Myers of Vancouver, Canada and his partner Bill Houghton; Teri Sue Myers of Winton, Minnesota and her children Jason Vigdal, Margaret Gruba (husband Eric, daughter Madelyn), and Sarah Ellis (daughter Lita); Dan Myers of Ceylon; Don Myers of St. Peter and his wife Joni (Anderson) Myers and their children Iris and Dalton; and Kaycee Hintz of Truman and her husband Larry Hintz and their children Nichole, Michael, and Rebecca. He is also survived by a younger brother, Stan Myers of Gilbert, Iowa, and was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Ken Myers of Annandale, Virginia.
