Deanna Lorraine Karau was born on April 8, 1946 to Alfred and Margaret (Tiedeken) Karau in Truman, MN. She attended school in Lewisville and graduated from Truman High School. On January 16, 1965 Deanna married Melvin L. Tomford at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville, MN. They later divorced. Deanna worked for many years at Tony Downs in Madelia. She also worked for many years at Wilton's Bar in Lewisville. Deanna lived in various places before settling in Kenneth, MN. Deanna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville. She was also a member of the Lewisville American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed visiting casinos but her true passion was watching the Minnesota Vikings. Deanna died on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia after a courageous battle with bone cancer.
Deanna is survived by one son, Brian Tomford and his wife Kelly of Waseca, MN; two grandchildred, Alex and Ashely, both at home in Waseca; two brothers, Gordon Karau, Chicago, IL, Roger Karau and special friend Jim, Las Vegas, NV; three sisters, Dee Firchau and husband Dennis , Lewisville, Val Erickson and husband Duane, Lake Crystal, MN, Velma Albrent and special friend Dennis, Lewisville; three half sisters, Wanda Ruzicka of Prior Lake, MN, Erla Mae Mangini of Lily Dale, MN, Alma Leigh Funderburk of FL; one half brother, Larry Karau of GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant sister.
