Lowell Nelson Peterson was born on the family farm in Waverly Township, Martin County, MN to Hans and Hannah (Nelson) Peterson on March 14, 1927. He attended school in Truman graduating from high school in 1945. After high school, Lowell remained on the family farm and farmed with his father. On September 20, 1958 Lowell was united in marriage to Geraldine Morgan at Waverly Lutheran Church, rural Trimont, MN. In 1966, they moved into Truman. Lowell was self employed and ran a bulldozer service until 1977. During that time he also owned and operated Pete's Car Wash. From 1977 until 1990 he was a rural mail carrier. Lowell retired in 1990. He continued working during his retirement as a floral delivery driver for Fairmont Flowers. Lowell was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Oles-Reader-Bosshart American Legion Post 115 in Truman. He enjoyed golf, watching the Minnesota sports teams, traveling and playing cards. He loved his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Peterson died on Tuesday morning, March 10, 2009 at his home in Truman.
Lowell is survived by his wife of 50 years, Geraldine, Truman; one daughter, Penney (Robert) Van Note, Fairmont, MN; two grandchildren, Nathan (Krista) Van Note and Natalie Van Note; two great grandsons, Austin and Terry; three sisters, Eleanor Lubitz, Truman, Carol Schwanz (Jr.), Truman, Faye Draper (George), Fairmont; three brothers, Arlo (Ellen), Moose Lake, MN, Merle (Phyllis), Wyoming, MN, Doyle (Arlene), Truman and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son in infancy; two sisters, Thelma Schmellen and Ardis Bast; two brothers, Clair and Lester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman or to Fairmont Medical Center Hospice.
