Edgar Martin Urevig was born to Martin and Clara (Egtveidt) Urevig on January 10, 1915, in Red Wing, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Urland Lutheran Church. He attended a rural school in Goodhue County and graduated from the School of Agriculture University of Minnesota. He was married to Evelyn Tande on June 29, 1940.
Edgar began working with the Dairy Herd Improvement Association in Watonwan County in l938. In 1943, he was hired by the Tilney Farms as their general manager, a position he held for over 40 years. Edgar was an active member of many agricultural organizations on the local, state, and national levels. He was the past president and honorary member of the MN Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Association. Edgar felt the only way that farming could become more efficient and financially sound was through research and development. His main goal was that every tenant on a Tilney Farm should be able to buy his own farm after 8-10 years. Edgar and his wife traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad. He was able to observe and study agriculture systems in other countries.
Edgar was a 40 year member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Truman, MN, where he served on various committees, sang in the choir, and taught an adult Sunday School class for 25 years.
Edgar was an avid reader and enjoyed poetry, both reading and writing it. Many friends and family received an original poem from him when celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Edgar passed away at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia on October 3, 2009.
