Elda Jennie Sorum

Elda Jennie Niss was born on December 8, 1910 in Waverly Township, Martin County, MN to John and Lena "Lennie? Reinke Niss. She was baptized at the North Star Church in 1911 in Waverly Township and confirmed at St. John's UCC. Elda attended school at Dist. 124 in Rutland Township. On June 28, 1933 Elda was united in marriage to Howard Sorum in Sioux Falls, SD. They moved to Northrop, MN that year where they remained for 42 years. In 1975 they moved to Fairmont. In 1987, Howard died. In October of 2005, Elda moved into Truman Senior Living. She was a member of St. John's UCC and the Women's Guild, taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Fairmont Hospital Auxiliary and the Hospital Association. Elda was active in the Fairmont Senior Citizens. Elda loved to cook and bake and enjoyed playing cards and watching the Twins. Elda died on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Fairmont Medical Center. Elda is survived by one daughter, Beverly (Roger) Wharton of Rosemount, MN; one son, Roger (Marjorie) Sorum of Tunnel Hill, GA; 6 grandchildren, John Baago, Jeffrey (Pamela) Baago, Jay (Lori) Baago, Wendi Sorum, Kimberly (Nick) Orf, Michael Sorum; 8 great grandchildren, Tara and Christian Baago, Emily and Elisa Baago, Nathan, Lucas, Haley and Lilly Orf; one sister, Erma Rosen, Fairmont; special nephews, Tom and Richard Rosen and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; one sister, Gladys; two brothers, Jack Niss and one in infancy. Elda's family wishes to extend special thanks to the Fairmont Medical Center Nurses, Staff and Dr. C. Anderson and also to Pastor Richard Abel of St. John's UCC. Memorial contributions may be given to the Fairmont Hospital Foundation, St. John's UCC or donor's choice.
