Delbert Wilbert Black was born on October 22, 1931 in Pleasant Mound Township to Wilbert and Cora (Stolzman) Black. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church-Willow Creek. Delbert attended parochial school at St. John's Lutheran Church-Willow Creek. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and held numerous offices throughout the years. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955. On January 10, 1954 Delbert was united in marriage to Darlene Jahnz. They farmed for many years in the Willow Creek area. After retiring he continued to help his son with spring and fall work. He enjoyed growing watermelons which he gave to his family, friends, the Salvation Army and Echo Food Shelf. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards with friends and spending time with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Delbert died on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Delbert is survived by his wife of 56 years, Darlene; one son, Randy and his wife Brenda Black; one daughter, Jeannie and her husband Bruce Ward, all of Amboy; nine grandchildren, Gini (Tony) Brummond, Nicole Geistfeld (Tim Smith), Matthew (Kayla) Black, Rachel (Craig) Hanson, Jennifer Sandmeyer, Matt Olson, Kami Ward, Cassie Ward and Trevor Ward; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Vernell Harbitz, St. James, MN, Joanne (Alvin) Stauffer, Albert Lea, MN, Shirley Madigan, Janesville, MN; sister-in-law, Arlis Black, Clear Lake, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Black; infant sister, Lorraine Black; daughter-in-law, Gail Black and brothers-in-law, Richard Harbitz and Bill Madigan.
