James Theodore Schwieger was born on November 7, 1934 in Frasier Township, rural Martin County, MN to Theodore and Lena (Roth) Schwieger. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fairmont. Jim attended parochial school at Immanuel Lutheran Church School and graduated from Fairmont High School. In 1955, Jim entered to US Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. In 1957, Jim opened his own body shop in Truman. On September 12, 1959, Jim was united in marriage to Doris Nelson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell. Jim moved his shop in Truman and in 1998 he began working with Jeff Greiner. He continued to work up until his death. Jim was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman where he held several offices. Jim was a member of the Oles-Reader-Bosshart American Legion Post 115 in Truman. Jim was an avid softball player and was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in 2003. He also enjoyed bowling, golf, fishing, hunting, shooting trap, playing cards, watching the Twins, Vikings and the Timberwolves. He loved to watch his grandsons play sports and taking them fishing. Jim died on Saturday morning, April 9, 2011 at the Fairmont Medical Center.
Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris Schwieger, Truman; one daughter, Donna (Dale) Owens, Andover, MN; two grandsons, David and Derek; six sisters, Luverna Hartmann, Fairmont, MN, Dorothy (Roland) Anderst, Fairmont, MN, Eunice (Orland) Day, Fresno, CA, Lois (Don) Swenson, Fairmont, MN, Mary Armbrust, Fairmont, MN, Marlene (Dan) Griffith, Eden Prairie, MN; three brothers, Lynn (Devy) Schwieger, Fairmont, MN, Delbert (Ruth) Schwieger, Jackson, MN, Gary (Marion) Schwieger, Welcome, MN; one sister-in-law, Janet Nelson, Dunnell, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; oldest brother, Milton Schwieger; sister-in-law, Erline Schwieger; brother-in-law, Wilbert Hartmann; brother-in-law, Bob Nelson; sister-in-law, Arlene Huse and sister-in-law Eunice Nelson.
