Irene Augusta Niss

Irene Augusta Weihe was born on March 22, 1928 in Fraser Township, Martin County, MN to Julius and Mary (Schultze) Weihe. She attended parochial school at St. James Lutheran, Northrop, MN. Irene worked at a "hired girl? for area families. On February 19, 1950, Irene was united in marriage to Harold "Steen? Niss at Zion Lutheran Church-Fraser Township. They farmed in Fraser Township. Irene was a Sunday School teacher at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township. In 1965 Steen and Irene moved to Estherville, IA. They moved to Fairmont in 2009 and Irene moved to Franklin, MN in 2010. Irene was involved in the Ladies Guild and Ruth Circle at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville, IA. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont and the VFW Auxiliary in Estherville. Irene enjoyed fishing, needlework and traveling. Irene died on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia, MN. Irene is survived by her husband, Harold "Steen? Niss, Fairmont, MN; three brothers, Joel and Peggy Weihe, Fairmont, MN, Henry Weihe, Truman, MN, Charles Weihe, Eagan, MN; sister-in-law, Geneva Kortgard of Clara City, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister-in-law, Joanne Weihe. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer's Research, 200 W. Old Shakopee Rd., Bloomington, MN.
