Virginia Mae (Roney) Wohlford has been a Fairmont resident for more than 60 years. She was active in the Methodist Church, American Legion and many local activities and celebrations as a partner in the 7-up bottling company that was a promoter of Fairmont industry through the last half of the 20th century. Ginny was the smiling and gracious lady who offered 7-up floats and recipes at Gunthers and other area stores, hosted picnics at their residence on Budd Lake and volunteered at the church even though she was deaf from a young age.
Ginny raised four sons, John, Bill, Bob and Denny, all born in Mankato. She was often found at Jerit's side when he tended to the staff and the business of keeping the area well supplied with 7-up. Ginny doted on her 12 grandkids, forever keeping them safe from going too deep into the lake as they visited "Grandma? in the summers. They could depend on cookies and treats that were always homemade and available. Four of her grandkids still reside in the area. Teresa Tonneson, her eldest granddaughter, has been her caregiver through the difficult period following her move to Lakeview Methodist Home. Virginia joined her husband, Jerit, (1916-1977) on November 1, 2012.
Memorials should directed to the American Cancer Society in memory of both Ginny and Jerit. No flowers please.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Jerit, her grand son Jason, her great grandoughter Olivia, and her sister Marion.
She was blessed with 12 grandchildren. Tyrone, Teressa, Tim, Tammy, Kevin, Dawn, Kelley, Amy, Ben, Bonnie, Mandy and Jason.
She was further blessed with 22 great grandchildren.
