Eugene Albert Firchau, the son of Albert and Violet (Kohn) Firchau was born on July 10, 1938, in Mankato. Sarge attended school at St. John's Lutheran School in South Branch and graduated from St. James High School. Sarge enlisted in the Army after high school. On May 5, 1960, he was united in marriage to Jan Becker at St. John's Lutheran Church in South Branch. After their marriage, Sarge worked at Druck Motors in Lewisville, Hovde Motors in St. James and in Owatonna before they moved to Truman in 1965. He owned Phillips 66 Station in Truman for 25 years. In 1983, he bought Stan & Mary's and opened Sarge's Service and Truman Flowers and Gifts.
Sarge loved playing golf with his three sons, spending time and playing pool with his grandchildren, woodworking, coaching Little League baseball and later in life antiquing with Jan. He was very active at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, served as an elder, usher and other church activities. Sarge served on the St. Paul's School Board and Truman Public Utilities Board.
Sarge is survived by his wife, Jan; three sons, Lon (Ruth) Firchau of Mankato, Lee (Colleen) Firchau of New Ulm and Corey Firchau and Jill Stankey of Mankato; three grandchildren, Jada, Paige and Nicholas Firchau; brother, Al (Chun) Firchau of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister, Karen (Dennis) Wacker of Butterfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene (Darlene) Becker of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jerome (Jan) Becker of Truman, Craig Becker of Truman and Jolene (Mike) Rider of Minneapolis, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and father and mother-in-law, Lorenz and Viola Becker.
