Funeral services for Dorothy Mae Borkenhagen, 90, Amboy, MN will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10:30 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Truman with Rev. Nathan Rusert officiating. Interment will be held at the Vernon Center Cemetery, Vernon Center. Dorothy died on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Ecumen Pathstone Living, Mankato. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2015 from 5-7:00 pm at Zaharia Family Funeral & Cremation Service of Truman and one hour before the services in the church Tuesday. Dorothy Mae Rice was born on February 26, 1925 in St. Paul, MN to Stephen and Elizabeth (Seckington) Rice. Growing up in Faribault, MN she worked all through high school and graduated in 1944. The highlight of her career at Northwest Bell was being the Evening Chief Operator at Mankato. On March 9, 1952 Dorothy was united in marriage to Marvin Borkenhagen at Our Merciful Saviour Church in Faribault. At rural Amboy, Marvin and Dorothy raised their three children, Brad, Bruce and Beth. Their family farm corporation grew under Marvin and Dorothy’s dedication and direction. Dorothy had been a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman and the Naomi Circle. She was also a 4-H leader. Dorothy enjoyed traveling to Ireland, deep sea fishing in Hawaii, touring farms in Europe, along with spending time in the summer at their lake cottage near Alexandria, MN. Near and dear to her heart were family and friends who will never forget her wit and humor. Dorothy was very proud of her Irish heritage. Extra special to Dorothy were the adventures and long talks she had with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Marvin; one son, Brad (fiancé Cheryl), Lewisville; Beth (Lee) Sieg, Truman; grandsons, Jeff (Carmen) Sieg, Brian Borkenhagen, Matt Sieg; granddaughters, Amy Borkenhagen-Fuller, Jeni Sieg (Daniel Salazar), Brooke Borkenhagen; great grandchildren, Jorge, Nick, Bryce and Chance. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bruce; two sisters, Ruth and Violet. www.zahariafamilyfuneral.com
