Memorial services for Jerry L. Karau, 68, rural Truman, MN will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 10:30 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Antrim, rural Truman with Rev. Matthew Rusert officiating. Inurnment will be held at the church cemetery. Jerry died on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Hillcrest Health Care Center, Mankato. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 5-7:00 pm at Zaharia Family Funeral & Cremation Service of Truman and one hour before the services in the church.
Jerry Lee Karau was born on March 21, 1947 to Edwin and Ortrude (Kietzer) Karau in Madelia, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Truman. Jerry graduated from Truman High School and VOTECH in Mankato. He worked at Bosshart Construction and other miscellaneous jobs before being drafted by the US Army. After his discharge, Jerry started farming with his father until Ed retired and Jerry took over the farming operation. On August 13, 1982, Jerry was united in marriage to Barbara (Frese) Rose. They continued farming until Jerry retired in 2008. They later moved into Lewisville. Jerry was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church-Antrim, the Lewisville American Legion Post 561 and Disabled American Veterans. Jerry enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, playing cards, shaking dice and didn’t pass up the opportunity to take a good nap.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara Karau, Lewisville; two sons, Joshua (Janelle) Karau and their son Liam, Jacob (Megan) Karau and their daughters, Elizabeth and Emily; one sister, Joyce (Roger) Jensen and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law; aunts and uncles.
