Marilyn Poppe, 89, of Northrop died, Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Goldfinch Memory Care Unit in Fairmont. Memorial service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 14 at St. James Lutheran Church of Northrop, with visitation from 11AM – 1PM at the church. Interment will be at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Marilyn was born August 22, 1926 in Rutland Township to Edward and Folva (Mittlestedt) Miller. She and her family moved to San Benito, TX when she was a child, she then returned to Minnesota at the age of 16 to care for her Grandmother Mittlestedt , and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1944.
On October 6, 1946 Marilyn married Loren Poppe at the St. James Lutheran Church and together they raised their three sons.
Marilyn worked at the Fairmont Community hospital for a few years, then owned and operated Poppe Oil Company, formerly Northrop Gas and Oil Company, with Loren for over 42 years.
She was a life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church and served in the ladies aid. Marilyn enjoyed gardening, crocheting and quilting. She was a longtime member of the Rose Lake Golf Club, having accomplished two different hole-in-ones!
Marilyn is survived by her sons, David (Kathy) Poppe of San Antonio TX, Brian (Renee) Poppe of Fairmont, Scott Poppe of Fairmont; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; dear friend, Marilyn Braddick of Tyler TX; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years Loren; two brothers and two sisters.
Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association of America.
