Mark Allen Harmdierks

November 27, 1955 — March 10, 2016

Mr. Mark Allen Harmdierks, age 60, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at his residence in Truman, MN. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 3:00pm, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman, MN. Mark will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date. Pastor Krista Strum will be officiating both services. Mark was born on November 27, 1955, in Britt, IA to Arthur A. “Red” Harmdierks and Mary K. (Austermiller) Harmdierks. Mark was raised with his three siblings; Terry, Sherry, and Todd, in Britt, IA. He graduated from Britt High School in 1974 where he was an accomplished athlete. Mark was a member of the Britt State Champion wrestling team in ’71, ’72, and ’73 and was the running back and defensive back for the ‘73 State Champion football team. Mark served in the Navy from 1974 to 1976 as an Airman and was stationed at the 32nd Street Naval Base in San Diego, CA. Mark also competed for the Navy wrestling team. After his military service, Mark returned to Iowa and worked for Snap-On Tools. He married Mary Joleen (Sandt) Harmdierks on June 1, 1978 in Algona, IA. They lived in Kossuth County and had three children; Sarah Jean, Nicole Lynn, and Mark Anthony. They separated in 1982 and later reunited in 1990 in Truman, MN. Though they later divorced after nineteen years of marriage, Mark and Mary remained very good friends and companions through out Mark’s life. Mark moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1983 where he met Shayna Malkin. Mark and Shayna spent seven years together and had a daughter; Patricia Dana. Mark worked in construction during his time with Shayna. They moved to Memphis, TN and later to Spencer, IA. Mark moved to Keystone, SD and married Teresa Kay (Reinken; Harmdierks) Hudson on April 27, 2001. Mark and Teresa had two sons; Stone Allen-Michael and Steel Arthur-Lewis. They moved from South Dakota to Minnesota where they later divorced in 2006. Mark enjoyed the wind in his hair and the freedom felt from riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Nothing was more treasured to Mark than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He liked telling stories of his life adventures and experiences to his friends and family. Mark had a great sense of humor and was known to embellish a story or two. He appreciated the outdoors; especially fishing, camping, and attending motorcycle rallies. He collected antiques and Native American cultural items and was a fan of NASCAR and the Minnesota Vikings. Mark was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans associations. Mark was previously a member of the Dove Christian Center in Rapid City, SD. Survivors include Mary Harmdierks of Boca Raton, FL; his six children; Sarah Diaz of Boca Raton, FL; Nicole and her husband Brian Montalvo of Royal Palm Beach, FL; Mark Harmdierks of Good Thunder, MN; Patricia Harmdierks of Ashland, OR; Stone (Harmdierks) Montalvo and Steel (Harmdierks) Montalvo of Royal Palm Beach, FL; his five grandchildren; Samantha Harmdierks, Alainna Montalvo, Hayden Montalvo, Isabella Harmdierks, and Stella Diaz; his brother Terry Harmdierks of Las Vegas, NV; his sister Sherry and her husband Dave Hall of Williams, IA; and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Harmdierks, and his brother, Todd Harmdierks.
