Marlys Elaine Ehlert

Marlys Ehlert, 66, of Truman, passed away at her home on October 16, 2016 surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be Friday, October 21, 2016 at 1:00pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman. Visitation will be Thursday, October 20 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at Zaharia Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Truman, and one hour prior to services at church. Marlys was born September 5, 1950 to Art and Elaine (Overlie) Rode in Mankato. She grew up in Emmetsburg IA, moved to Truman in 1966 and graduated from Truman High School. On May 9, 1980 Marlys married Dean Ehlert and together raised their four daughters in Truman. Marlys had a true passion for children and provided Day Care for over 35 years. She enjoyed watching her daughters and grandchildren’s activities, crocheting socks and afghans, going to Fairmont Raceway, watching her soap operas and playing Bingo. The camper at Dawson’s Campground was a special place for her for many years, and she will be remembered for her love of Christmas with her entire family home. She is survived by her husband of 36 years Dean; children, Angela (Mike) Reilly, Kari (Terry) Mohwinkel, Jackie (Jason) Schuder and Jenna (Nick) Scheuring; grandchildren, Reese, Nicholas, Tyler and Paige Reilly, Krystopher, Kaleb, Kobe and Torri Mohwinkel, Amanda and Alexandra Schuder, Grady, Aubry and Olivia Scheuring; siblings, Linda (Gary) Meyer, Larry Rode, Dennis (Pam) Rode, David (Kris) Rode, and Lisa (Scott) Gravlin; in-laws, Bruce Ehlert, Linda (Steve) Hermanson, Rick (Patti) Ehlert and Terry (Karen) Ehlert; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father in-law, Ernest (Betty Jane) Ehlert; sister-in-law, Lorraine Ehlert and nephew, Billy Odegaard. In lieu of flowers please direct gifts and donations to the family for medical expenses.
