William James Atkinson, a beloved father, musician, and master electrician, passed away peacefully at the age of 69 on February 18, 2025. Born on July 25, 1955, to Jerome and Marina (Schmiesing) Atkinson, Bill grew up in Truman with 9 tremendous siblings and graduated from Truman in 1973. He pursued his passion for electricity at Dunwoody Institute, laying the foundation for a remarkable career that would span over four decades. In 1979, he relocated to Colorado, where he established his own electrical business, Western Slope Electric, earning a reputation for his expertise and dedication.

Bill was much more than a successful businessman; he was a beacon of optimism and a loving soul who embraced life with a laid-back demeanor and an infectious smile. He shared his love of music with the world, playing the saxophone in four different bands throughout the years. A devoted fan of the Grateful Dead, he shared his passion for music with friends and family and was easily recognized by his colorful tie-dye clothing. Beyond music, Bill cherished the outdoors and spent many joyful days telemark skiing and playing cribbage with family and friends. He remained a simple, small-town guy at heart, always appreciating the beauty in life’s simplest pleasures. In 2024, he made the heartfelt decision to move to Windom due to health concerns, with the support of his son, Casey.

Bill is survived by his son Casey Atkinson of Windom, daughter Holly (Jon Kropenske) Atkinson of Silverthorne, CO, sisters; Marilyn (Dan) Kneeland of New Prague, Jane (Don) Kuhlman of Mankato, Beth (David) Kloeckner of Fairmont, brothers; Mark (Jeannie) of Fairmont, Jerome Jr “Chip” (Julie) of Eufaula, OK, Robert of Lake Crystal, Jon (Kerri) of Show Low, AZ, Joseph (Karen) of Chaska, MN, and Patrick ( Priscilla) of San Antonio, TX, as well as many nieces, nephew and extended family members.
