Connie Selnes

Connie Selnes, age 85 of Truman passed away in her home with her loving children by her side. A memorial service will be held at 1pm Saturday January 11, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman with Rev. Carol Mapa officiating. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm January 11 at the church. Connie was born in McIntosh, SD August 17, 1939 and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1957. She obtained a 2-year degree from Aberdeen Teachers college and taught in Selby, Orient and Faulkton, SD. She was instrumental in establishing the first kindergarten in Faulkton.

In 1960 Connie was united in marriage to Carol Selnes of Faulkton, SD Later they became parents to Monty and Wendy. In 1978 Carol was promoted to sales manager of Schwans ice cream and they moved to NC for two years. In 1981 they became residents of Truman, MN where both children graduated from Truman High School.

Connie was a paraprofessional at Truman Elementary and at Fairmont Special Education Dept. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in education from Mankato State University in 1992, after which she was hired by Truman Public School where she was the Title 1 Administrator for 14 years. After retirement, she volunteered at Truman Public School and in the community. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman where she served on the church council, was secretary of WELCA ladies’ group, active in Martha circle and loved teaching Sunday School. She and her husband Carol were leaders of the Trinity Youth Group.

Scrapbooking was her hobby, making family history books of the Stewart, Farstad and Selnes families and later for her three grandsons and 7 great-grandchildren. Carol and Connie took many trips but the highlight trip was to Norway where they met many of Carol’s cousins. They even stayed in the home where Carol’s father was born.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Monty (Tamara) of Truman, daughter Wendy of Savage, three grandsons; Brady (Heidi) Selnes of Mankato, Jordan Selnes of Truman and Taro Selnes of Savage. Seven great-grandchildren; Carson and Mason Peters, Cali and Colby Cross and Oakley Selnes all of Mankato, Logyn Luhman of Fairmont and Maddox Selnes of Truman. Niece, Pam Selnes of WA, nephew Robert Selnes of CO and many cousins.

Connie is preceded in death by her husband, Carol, her parents Melvin and Grace Stewart, daughter Darcy and in-laws, Jack and Jennie Mae (Deady) Selnes. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate the donation of books to the Truman School, in honor of Connie and her love for children and reading.
