Darwin Cook

August 10, 1939 — October 28, 2021

Darwin Ray Cook, age 82, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2021 at Heartland Senior Living-Truman. Memorial service will be at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairmont, with Rev. Anthony Bertram officiating. Visitation one hour prior. Burial with Military honors will follow at Grandview Memorial Park in Austin. Due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, the family requests that masks be worn to keep everyone as safe as possible. Darwin was born on August 10, 1939 to Merritt and Edythe (Royce) Cook in Elmore, Minnesota. He attended Austin High School. He entered the US Air Force in December 1958 and was honorably discharged in October of 1962. During his time in the service, he married Marlys Adams on May 21, 1960 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin Minnesota. Darwin and Marlys lived in Albert Lea and Darwin worked for Allied Roofing Company. In 1973, they moved to Brownsdale and were co-owners of Jack's Heating and Air Conditioning. In 1980, Darwin was employed by Ettel and Franz Roofing Company in St. Paul, in which he would drive home every weekend. In 1984, they moved to Brooklyn Park to be close to his work. Darwin took great pride in his career as a sheet metal worker. In 2006, Darwin and Marlys moved to Fairmont to be closer to their family. They especially enjoyed watching their grandchildren participate in sports, music, plays and activities. Darwin and Marlys enjoyed fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and traveling. Darwin was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairmont. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marlys Cook; three sons, Kevin Cook (friend Lorrie) of Park City, UT, Brian (Donna) Cook of Lakefield, MN and Tim (Mindy) Cook of Truman, MN; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alla Classon and Virginia "Ginny" Benson; several nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Darwin is preceded in death by his sister, Betty (Duane) Litwiller, brother, Merritt "Sonny" (Margaret) Cook, twin sister, Darlene (Jim) Goestch, brother in laws Howard Classon and Joseph "Joe" Benson. Darwin will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorials may be sent to Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Fairmont Big and Loud Program which supports Parkinson's Physical Therapy.
