Gertrude Matie Kassube

Gertrude Matie Kassube, originally from rural Vernon Center, age 93, died at the Heartland Senior Living in Truman on February 5^th, 2020.  Funeral Service will be Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 10 AM at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia, with Rev. Greg Volbrecht Officiating. Visitation one hour prior at the church.  Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery- Fieldon, rural Lewisville.

Gertrude Matie Arndt was born May 17, 1926, to her parents William and Elsie (Blume) Arndt.  She was baptized, confirmed (on March 17, 1940) and later married, all at the Trinity Fieldon Lutheran Church. She went to Fieldon Lutheran parochial school through the eighth grade & after that she worked at home and helped others. She married Clarence Kassube on September 19, 1948. They farmed all their married life. She took care of the sheep and really loved those little lambs. She also loved helping her husband. Gertie loved working in her flower garden and in the winter her windows were filled with pots of flowers. For several years she was the church organist at the Fieldon Lutheran Church. For the past ten years she has been a resident at Heartland Senior Living; while there she helped the Saint Paul’s Lutheran school children with their Eager Readers program. She was the last surviving member of the retirement home’s original bell choir. She loved baking, cooking and canning. She really valued and looked forward to her time spent with family and friends. She was also a devout Christian and loved the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. 

Gertrude is survived by her brother Ervin Arndt (Ann) of Vernon Center, sister-in-law Dolly Kassube of Lewisville & many nieces, nephews & great/great great nieces and nephews. 

Gertie is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Verona Tonn, brothers-in-law Herman Kassube, John (Elfrieda) Kassube, sisters-in-law Edna (Clem) Kunz, Norma  (Marlowe) Kelly.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Martin Luther High School or a memorial of your choice.
