Truman

Janis Mae (Lupke) Olson, age 83 of Truman, passed away on Friday November 17, 2023 at Truman Senior Living. Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 11AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at La Salle Cemetery for family only. A live stream of the service will be available on www.zahariafamilyfuneral.com.

Janis was born on April 4, 1940 in Butterfield to Gustav and Edna (Mausling) Lupke and was baptized in St. Matthew’s Church in Butterfield. Janis and her seven siblings moved to the family farm in South Branch in 1943. She attended eight years of school at St. John’s Lutheran School in South Branch before attending and graduating from Truman High School. Janis worked at Stokley’s and saved enough money to attend De Lyles Academy of Beauty School, completing the program in 1959. Janis married Harold “Bud” Olson in Brookings, SD on January 30, 1965. Janis lived in Madelia and St. James before moving to Truman in 1972. In St. James, Janis worked at the Scher-Tumico Plant. Janis then worked 35 dedicated years in the beauty shop at the Lutheran Rest Home in Truman. She also was a Den Mother and taught Sunday School. Janis also belonged to a birthday club and was a member of the Red Hatters.

Janis’s most cherished times were spent with her two sons and their families. She always had a smile on her face.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James (Joni) Olson of Minnetonka, granddaughters, Jenna Ahlschlager (Andy) and Jaclyn Martineau (Hunter), and great grandsons, Arthur James Ahlschlager and Axel James Martineau; son, Todd Olson and grandchildren, Emma and Maxwell Olson of Queen Creek, AZ; siblings, Lyle (Sonja), Carmen Angus (Alyn), Arlys Hoffmeyer, Cheryl Otte and Deborah Hotzler.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Bud” Olson; her parents, Gus and Edna; and two brothers, Jerald and Darrel.
