Paula L. Schwanz

Paula Louise Schwanz, age 99 of Truman, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Heartland Senior Living in Truman. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 11am at St. John’s Lutheran Church South Branch. A time for visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery South Branch.

Paula was born on June 9, 1921 in Good Thunder to Christopher and Emma (Greiner) Schmidt. She attended parochial school at St. John’s Lutheran School South Branch and Truman High School. On June 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Raymond Schwanz at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Truman. The couple farmed in South Branch Township until 1989 when they moved to Truman. Paula entered Truman Assisted Living in 2013 and later the retirement home.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church South Branch, the church’s ladies aide, and LWML. She was also a member of the extension club, as well as the Truman Card Marathon. Paula enjoyed traveling and touring the US and Canada. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, baking, quilting, crocheting, and playing cards and games. She was a great cook, but she didn't enjoy it. Most of all she enjoyed her time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Paula loved her family dearly.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ken Schwanz of Truman, Linda Edwards of Beverly, MA, and Sue (Neil) Wiederhoeft of Truman; 5 grandchildren, Jonathan Edwards, Brent (Jessica) Edwards, Angie Sundeen, Emily (Sam) Meixell, and Callie (Brian) Wille; 7 great grandchildren, Abigail, Alexis, and Avery Sundeen, Noah, Eli, and Maxton Meixel, and Kennedy Wille; and sisters-in-law, Marlys Coplan and Luella Smith.

Paula is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; sister, Marie Hoffman; sisters-in-law, Irene Henton, Arlene Lindseo, Laura Schweppe, and Helen Schofield; and grandson-in-law, Shane Sundeen.
