Marie Sophie was born to Paul and Carrie (Hansen) Fredericksen on December 19, 1925 in Ringsted, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Marie graduated from Dolliver High School and she went on to a business school in Mankato to study accounting and business. She held various jobs throughout her life, having been taught the value of hard work.
Marie was united in marriage to Pierce “Dean” Ricard on March 25, 1956 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman. Marie and Dean farmed together and enjoyed travelling. They moved to Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont in 2013. Dean passed away January 16, 2015. Marie moved to Heartland Senior Living in Truman in 2018.
Marie’s proudest achievement is raising her 6 children. Being a long-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman and a member of the Naomi Circle, she had a strong faith and placed her family in high importance. Playing cards, selling Avon, cooking and baking were some of the things she loved. She loved her grandchildren, greats and great-greats, too.
Marie will be remembered for her “chicken on Sundays”, (which was almost as religious a ritual as going to church), and for being a nice, soft spoken and kind lady.
Marie is survived by her children, Jim (Carol) Ricard of Winnebago, Gary (Connie) Ricard of Fairmont, Gloria (Wayne) Lutz of Lantana, Florida, Earl (Julie) Ricard of Northrop and Michael (Theresa) Ricard of Truman; daughter-in-law Kim Ricard of Lake Crystal; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ardis Sweeney of California and Karen (Keith) Hertzke of Fairmont; sisters-in-law, Eulalie Ann Grunig of Truman, Delores Holz of Fairmont and Roxanne Brummond of Granada; brother-in-law, Kenneth LeVan of Plainview, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean (2015), son Dennis (2017), brother, Virgil Fredericksen and sister, Esther LeVan.
