Mavis O. Johnson

Mavis Oriel Johnson, age 91, of Truman, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Heartland Senior Living, Truman.  Her funeral will occur on Friday May 24th at Waverly Lutheran Church, rural Trimont, MN, at 11:00AM, with a visitation one hour prior. Interment to follow at Waverly Cemetery.  The service will be officiated by Rev. Anthony Christoffels. Zaharia Family Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. www.zahariafamilyfuneral.com 

Mavis was born March 31, 1928 on a farm in Waverly Township, Martin County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Oranda (Peterson) Johnson.  She was baptized and confirmed in Waverly Lutheran Church.  Mavis attended country school #122 and later, Truman High School where she graduated in 1946.  After high school, Mavis worked for REA in St. James.  In 1960, she began a long career as a bookkeeper for the Fairmont Sentinel, retiring in 1994.

Mavis was kind and loving with a heart of gold.  She was a humble, selfless person with an ability to listen deeply to others.  Mavis enjoyed spending time with family and celebrating their successes.  She was a member of Waverly Lutheran Church, serving many years as a Sunday School teacher for 3-year-olds.  She was a faithful, strong Christian whose faith influenced others.

Mavis is survived by nephews, Richard Johnson of Rolling Hills Estates, CA and Steven Graham (Vanessa) of Truman, MN; nieces, Denise Johnson of Homeland, CA and Velda Graham Bell (Geoffrey) of Duluth, MN; great-nephew, Nicholas Graham of Rolfe, IA; great-nieces, Danielle (Jeffrey) Howell of Queen Creek, AZ and Jennifer Graham of Ringsted, IA; as well as cousins and other relatives and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; brother, Leland Johnson; sister, Dorothy (Johnson) Graham; and nephew, Brett Graham.
